Providing safe, reliable and affordable fresh water.

On the African island of Madagascar, 11 million people still do not have access to clean water resources. About 85 % of the population lives in remote communities. Tsifota is one of these communities. Elemental Water Foundation is a certified NGO with the goal to help people that need it most. The NGO together with its local partner Trans Mad and the support of private sector donations, successfully raised the funds required for the installation of the solar-powered desalination system. After the realization of the water project powered by the Elemental Water Foundation, Tsifota has now access to 20,000 liters of clean water every day.

It’s been a long period since Madagascar has closed itself off from the outside world as a result of COVID. In that same period, the country had to endure one of the worst droughts, as well as several tropical cyclones. We are happy to share that the project has been successfully commissioned and the local operators have been trained to operate and maintain the installation by Elemental Water Makers. The water will be distributed at a rate of 6 Ariary per liter, which equals 0,0013 € per liter. That’s only 0,13 cents per liter which comes at a much lower expense than the currently unsafe transported water or bottled water. Through this project, several SDGs have been reached for a vulnerable remote community of 4000 people in a developing country, including access to clean water, improved health, resilience and the possibility for further community development.
