Drinking water supply is a major problem in the Philippines. The country ranks only 97th in global access to clean drinking water and has the highest water cost in South East Asia. Nearly seven million people rely on unsafe and unsustainable water sources. In addition to the problem of low-quality water comes the issue of climate change. Due to global warming, the annual dry season is causing more and more severe droughts that lead to natural water sources drying up even more. As the countries population is widespread across the islands,it is especially remote communities that are afflicted by these water problems. How can this be in a country that is surrounded by water?

In order to become resilient and less exposed to water shortages and quality issues, Elemental Water Makers developed the Elemental Water Response. This portable solar-powered desalination unit for temporary application (such as emergency response) was developed to generate up to 50 litres of clean & reliable drinking water per hour. (50 litres/hour). With the help of five Elemental Water Response boxes, several communities have gained temporary access to safe, sustainable, and affordable drinking water.
