The sweet promise of seawater.

Desalination is nothing new, it’s been done for decades and currently provides water for around 300 million people. Due to water shortages, this number increases by over 10% each year.

Now conventional fossil-driven desalination emits significant fossil fuels that lead to additional water scarcity by climate change. At the same time, their large brine flows contain chemicals and high salinity salt water that can damage the marine environment.

Sustainable desalination is more than only using solar energy to power the desalination unit. This is how we turn the growing promise of seawater into something ‘sweet’ for generations to come:

– Minimizing the salinity of the brine by running on a low recovery ratio
– Minimize the local impact by small-scale decentralized projects
– No chemicals are involved by avoiding the use of antiscalants & CIP
– 70% less energy is required due to energy recovery.
– Solar energy to avoid the use of fossil fuels

Besides sustainability, this also ensures affordability with energy prices on the rise. This makes us totally unique and has recently brought much attention to sustainable desalination, both globally and locally. Please enjoy this fresh update.

Euronews Rethink Series on Elemental Water Makers

Project referral: private island resort Tanzania.

In the past months, we have commissioned several projects. We are happy to share a referral from Zanzibar for an island project of &Beyond, which is now ensuring that its guests leave no footprint while enjoying the island’s natural beauty.
“We operate a small island of the coast of Zanzibar where water is not an easily accessible commodity, however dealing with high-end guests it is a requirement for our operation and we cannot afford to be without it. From the moment of sending our first enquiry up to the very end of installing our new desalination plant, the Elemental Waters team have been nothing but professional and courteous.

They are extremely knowledgeable about their product and what it takes to operate a Desalination plant in a remote environment. We are even currently looking into purchasing a second Desalination Machine from them.”

Dedicated training for Installation & Operation.

Every desalination project needs a skilled installer and operator. In some countries, we have certified partners that provide these services. In others, our project engineers come to ensure the equipment is commissioned correctly and the local staff are trained for operation and maintenance.

However, in some special cases, this is not possible. One example is a project in Somalia, where safe travel can be an issue. To overcome this, we have hosted 3 WASH engineers of Save the Children Somalia for an intensive 3-day training course in our Training Center. By doing so, we are able to enable clean drinking water for the ones who need it most.
